Probiotics or antibiotics? Choose the right probiotic

Whether one should rely on probiotics or antibiotics are more effective? This is a commonly asked questions. People are often looking for an either/or answer, but it is not possible to select one or the other. Both antibiotics and probiotics have their importance and cannot be substituted.

The essential role of antibiotics for preventing and curing bacterial infection is undeniable. Antibiotics are amongst the biggest revolution in the modern medicines that has saved millions of lives across the globe since its discovery in the 1920s.

What Is Preferred Antibiotic or Probiotic?

It is essential to take notice that in no circumstances, one should self-medicate; therefore, it is important to complete your antibiotic course according to your doctor’s prescription. However, many people that take antibiotic experience digestive issues, including diarrhea. Antibiotics kill harmful bacteria in the body that are the root cause of a disease; but as a side effect, antibiotics can also cause collateral damage to microbiome.

Microbiome is an essential bacterial that lives in our gut, this complex community of bacteria helps keep the gut healthy. Temporary absence of the beneficial bacteria can disturb the digestive system. Probiotic supplements are a popular method of maintaining the beneficial bacterial for a healthy gut. Patients that are on an antibiotic course are often recommended to take probiotic health supplements containing live bacteria during or after their antibiotic course.

Studies have found out that probiotics can effectively help prevent antibiotic-associated diarrhea, although there is not enough evidence available on this subject. Researchers have also found out that antibiotics can have harmful effects on gut health due to the absence of the essential microbiome. This is considered to be one of the significant reasons why people that are having antibiotics experience an unhealthy gut that leads to constipation, vaginal thrush, and/or diarrhea. Probiotics could be the answer to this problem and help improve the gut health.

Probiotics may be preferred over antibiotics to treat some health conditions, including skin problems like acne. People suffering from acne usually prefer taking the natural route before opting antibiotics or other modern medicines. Depending on natural remedies is a common practice, which has shown impressive results to a vast majority of people. However, there are no proper evidences that prove natural remedies or health supplements with Synbiotic help cure or improve skin conditions like acne and spots.

There are many probiotic health supplements that are available in the market. However, due to the lack of evidence doctors hesitate to recommend it to patients. If you are willing to include probiotics in your diet to improve your gut health or your skin condition, you can rely on natural probiotic foods. Probiotic is a live bacteria that is available in yogurt and other fermented foods.

Although, we have come far with modern medicine, but there is still not enough evidence that would help us conclude on what scale are antibiotics and probiotics effective, and whether or not probiotics
